8 Characteristics you Need to Be Successful
What Is Success?
Success can be defined in many different ways. To some, success means achievement of wealth and major goals. To others, success simply means to develop quality relationships with family or with one self.
Success happens when you accomplish a certain goal, and you are positively and fruitfully rewarded.
Some things you can reflect on before taking action
“what do I need to accomplish to feel successful?”
Defining what you want to achieve and accomplish is the very first step.
- Do you want to lose 20 pounds?
- Do you want to go on a vacation?
- Do you want to buy a house?
What is at least one specific thing you want to achieve in life?

What are the steps I need to take to accomplish this?
If there are too many steps to accomplish your desired goal, try not to feel overwhelmed. Just think about the first step and do that. Then take the journey step by step.
It is especially helpful if you write all of these questions down. My nana used to say “So it is written, so it is done.” Writing this down will also provide you with a clearer definition of what you want to see happen.
Recipe for Success
Action: In order to gain results, you must take action. Even if the action simply requires to show up. Do that. If it means you have to jump out of your comfort zone, do it anyways. After reflection, Action is the first step toward change and achieving your goal.
Consistency: You’ve got to be consistent if you want to get better at something, or see results. Do whatever it is your trying to succeed at as often as you can.
Persistence: Even on days you don’t feel like showing up, you must be persistent. Even on days you feel discouraged, you’ve go to keep going. This is a very important component to attain. If you continue to be persistent, you will eventually get results.
Alignment: This is so important. When you want to achieve your goals, you should align yourself with others who will teach you.
When I started blogging, I watched videos, I listened to podcasts, and I invested in a course. I wanted to learn a new skill, and be successful in it. I had no idea what to do. As I aligned myself with the pros, I saw results faster then what I would’ve seen if I did it alone.
Imagination: Thats right. In order to be successful in your endeavors, you need to use your imagination. Whatever it is that you desire, see it, feel it, and imagine what it would feel like to have it.
When I was working on getting my masters degree, I would spend time thinking about my diploma. At the time, my degree was all I wanted. I would imagine what it looked like. I imagined finally getting it. I felt excited about going to my graduation. I imagined feeling so happy and accomplished when I finally did get my diploma.
Then the day came when I got a text to my phone. It was a copy of my digital degree. I was in tears when I saw that piece of paper with my name on it for the first time.
The point of my story is that imagination works.
Focus: If I had a paper due, or a deadline to meet, I would make sure that I removed all distractions. I would put on some brain music from youtube, and I would get it done. Try to remove your daily distractions while you are working on something: Facebook, your phone, noisy environments, etc. Focusing will help you complete your goal, and will give you more ease to do what you need to do.
Patience: I’m not gonna lie, I’m the type of person who gets discouraged when I don’t see immediate results. I like instant gratification. I had to accept that success is the total opposite of that. It takes time and effort to become successful, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It took me 9 flipping years to get my masters degree. I didn’t think I would ever get to the point of saying I had my masters degree when I was going through it. I struggled. I cried. I spent many nights wondering if it would ever pay off. It did. It is paying off, and it will continue to pay off. So don’t worry, be patient.
Sacrifice: If you want something bad enough, you’ve got to make sacrifices. How many times did I long to go out with friends or go to birthday parties but couldn’t because I had homework? A lot.
But now, I don’t have homework. I have a really great job, along with the money to do the things I missed out on. And best of all, I get to help people! Even though you are making sacrifices, know that there will always be events, or parties, or whatever it is you can’t go to once your done with what you need to do.
Being Frantic Vs. Being in the Flow
Frantic: When I am stressed and overwhelmed, I can’t get anything done. I become frantic. I lose energy and productivity. When I work too hard because I’m stressed about getting it done, I don’t get the results I want.
Flow: When I begin and take things step by step without stressing, I get it done. When I feel good, I get it done. When I trust myself I get it done. When I do it in a better state of mind, I am able to flow and achieve great results. Being in the flow of your work is the best way to go.
Push Past your Fears
I know that it is scary to do something new, or to take risks. But remember that if you never attempt, you’ll never know if you could’ve made it or not.
Know that the universe will provide for you regardless. And if it’s criticism you fear, who really cares what people think? Haters are always gonna be there to hate.
I promise that you’ll bring value to many many people when you are doing what you love.
So take these tips and put them in your toolbox. If you cultivate these components, I guarantee you will see results.
Here’s to your success,
