Boxing: Mark Magsayo Next Fight Will Be No Pushover
It took a while but Mark “Magnfico” Magsayo heaved a deep sigh of relief. Following the untimely retirement of Jose Haro, the undefeated Filipino boxer finally has a new opponent in Rigoberto Hermosillo.
“Make ginhawa po kasi ready for team ko,” Magsayo said in an exclusive interview.
The two pugs will face off in the main event of FS1 PBC Fight Night on October 4 (October 5 in Manila) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Bohol Pride is eager to win the ring and earn his first victory under MP Promotions. He faces the 28-year-old boxer from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, who holds an 11-2-1 record, eight coming from knockouts.
In addition, Hermosillo has just suffered two boxing losses. He lost to Manny Robles III on May 5, 2019, by split decision and again lost on November 23, 2019 to Viktor Slavinskyi by unanimous decision by Boxrec. His last taste of victory was against Ernesto Guerrero on July 6, 2018 via KO.
Although he has been training for some time now, Magsayo believes the odds are still level between him and Hermosillo.
“Sa tingin ko, pareho lang kasi nag-training din kalaban natin. Mask off the fullest tongue, ”he said.
Magsayo added that it was his promoter who had chosen his opponent and that he had already seen his opponent in action.
“Napanood ko din ang laban niya. Magaling siya and pasok ng pasok. Excited ako dahil magandang laban ito. Find out everything you want to know to make great books, ”Magsayo joked.
It has been over a year since the 25-year-old entered the ring. It was on August 29, 2019 that he faced Thailand’s Panya Uthok, winning by unanimous decision to win the WBC-ABC featherweight title.
