Enyimba winger Anayo Iwuala says he is delighted with his very first Super Eagles call ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho later this month .

On Friday, the wing assistant was invited to replace UD Almeria striker Umar Sadiq, who was barred by his Spanish club from honoring the invitation due to coronavirus restrictions.

Iwuala, who has scored twice and provided 8 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions for Enyimba this season, added that he was very grateful to everyone who made his invitation to the Super Eagles a reality.

Iwuala’s invitation to the Super Eagles came one day on his 22nd birthday, and the former Delta Force player said he had been inundated with ‘massive’ calls and congratulatory messages from the family. , friends and relatives.

“There have surely been calls from my family, friends and relatives,” Iwuala said.

“And it’s really huge, I have to say, because it’s a double congratulation, today (Saturday) being my birthday and yesterday (Friday) I was called up to the national team. So that’s huge for me. There were many calls.

Iwuala’s call brings the number of home players invited for the double header to three, following teammate and goalkeeper John Noble and Abia Warriors defender Adeleke Adekunle, who also received a late substitute invite from defender Kenneth Omeruo.

Needing only one point to qualify for CAN 2021, Nigeria, triple African champion, will face the Benin Squirrels in Porto Novo on March 27, before welcoming the Lesotho Crocodiles in Lagos, three days later.
