Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh that coincides with the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations. The Prime Minister was greeted by his Bangladeshi counterpart Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when he landed in Dhaka on Friday.
While in Dhaka, PM Modi visited the National Martyrs Memorial, Savar. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the freedom fighters who died in 1971 during the Bangladesh War of Independence. PM Modi planted an Arjuna sapling at the memorial.
PM Modi was greeted by members of the Indian diaspora in Bangladesh at a hotel in Dhaka. The Dawoodi Bohra community in Bangladesh welcomed PM Modi to Dhaka. “PM Modi on his arrival here met us. We asked him to allow the visit of Syedna sahib to Bangladesh, ”said the representative of the Bangladesh spiritual leader of the community Dawoodi Bohra.
The Prime Minister also met with members of the minority community in Bangladesh.
On Friday, the Prime Minister met with “Muktijodhas” in Dhaka. The “Muktijodhas” are the fighters of the Bangladesh Liberation War. The Prime Minister also engaged with Bangladesh opposition leaders.
PM Modi met young high achievers from Bangladesh. Among the young players was cricketer Shakib Al Hasan. During his meeting with Prime Minister of India, Shakib said: “Truly honored to meet Prime Minister Modi. I think his visit will be fruitful for both countries. The leadership he has shown for India is tremendous. I hope he will continue to contribute to the growth of India in the future. & Our relationship with India will improve day by day ”
Previously, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen commented on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the country. He said. “The focal point of the visit is celebration. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and PM Modi have reached such diplomatic maturity that we have resolved all of our critical issues through dialogue and discussion.”
“Without a single bullet, we achieve our goals. For India, their eastern border is secure thanks to strong relations with Bangladesh. For us, the land border finalized, the maritime border with India finalized, the sharing of Ganges water finalized, ”Momen added. .
