The Best of the Day: April 11th, 2021

IN A TIME THAT REJECTS MID-RANGERS, DEROZAN HAS PERFECTED

DeMar DeRozan had 33 points for San Antonio in their victory over Dallas on Sunday night. The last two of those 33 came on a last second midrange jumper to put his team up two and win the game. He was able to reach a place on the ground where he feels comfortable and reverse the shot.

The place on the floor where DeRozan shines is different from most of the league. He’s a mid-range expert and lives off those clichés. Over the years, fewer and fewer mid-range shots are taken in the league as players have been urged to extend their game beyond the three-point line. In fact, most players these days need a successful three-point jumper to even play in today’s NBA.

Although the league is moving away from mid-range shooting, DeRozan still lives on it. He is currently on a 5 year / $ 139 million contract which he earned shooting the mid-ranger at a high clip. Having a player like him on the team brings a different look to the offense and makes it more diverse with more ways to score effectively, which is why DeRozan continues to thrive, even in the NBA today.
