Fall essential oil diffuser blends for a healthy home • [Narwhal + Moon]

Fall is without a doubt my favorite season.
With the air getting fresher, the fantastic hot spicy smells and the leaves changing color, it means it’s almost time to Halloween Grave.
Halloween is my favorite holiday. People think you’re weird if you embrace the awesomeness of Halloween for more than a few days around October 31st. But I digress.
Here is a small selection of essential oils for fall that you can diffuse to celebrate fall, while keep your home or workspace healthier and free of toxins.

Why use essential oils?

I liked the candles.
There is something heartwarming about a warm and cozy sparkling candle, which also smells amazing. For me, it’s calming and relaxing.
I have the Desert Mist diffuser from Young Living and LOVE twinkling light mode.

When you burn candles, they release volatile organic compounds and particles into the air. You are essentially creating indoor air pollution. Paraffin, which most candles are made from, is waste petroleum that must be deodorized and chemically bleached before it can be turned into wax. When paraffin wax candles burn, highly toxic compounds such as benzene and toluene, which are known carcinogens, are released. Oh, and then we found out that the wicks contained lead … even though we thought they were supposed to be made from cotton and paper in North America.
Then there is the scent. The majority of chemicals that make up “perfumes” are derived from petrochemicals, including benzene derivatives, benzene, aldehydes, phthalates – which are known to cause cancer, birth defects, nervous system disorders and allergies. Phthalates added to products to extend the shelf life of fragrances have been shown to disrupt hormonal activity, reduce sperm count, cause reproductive defects and have been linked to liver and breast cancer, diabetes and obesity.

Concentrated plant extracts, essential oils are obtained by steam distillation, cold pressing or resin removal, which gives distinctive molecular profiles giving the oils specific aromas and properties. Essential oils have been used by people for thousands of years.

Thieves essential oil blend

The clove in thieves helps relieve cough or cold symptoms when inhaled or applied to the feet and wrists. The powerful essential oils in this blend create a warm, melting aroma. The story behind this oil is that during the Black Death, thieves used a mixture of spices and oils so that they could steal corpses without getting sick themselves.

Elemi essential oil

This is a new oil to me, and one that looks like it should be part of your essential oil diffuser blend for everyone and winter.
Like frankincense essential oil, elemi oil is rich in monoterpenes. It is often called “poor man’s incense”. It can be particularly useful for wound care and to support respiratory health.
