21 day solution with fibromyalgia Week 1 • [Narwhal + Moon]

I have decided to review my first full 21 Day Fibromyalgia Patch Series.

Five years ago I was maybe in the best shape of my life. Weightlifting at least five days a week and almost confident enough to try my hand at cross fit. # helloanxiety I wanted to become a certified kettlebell instructor.
Then life came. I moved to Canada and started university. The depression set in as it took over a year for Andy to be allowed to immigrate. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
I slowly worked on my strength and stamina. I had to adjust the training programs and modify some more difficult movements. Adding rest days to make sure I’m recovering. A few months ago, a workout on Monday hurt me and put me in bed for the rest of the week.

Day 1 – Total Body Cardio Fix

So much food, so little time to eat !!
Tired in the morning, but full of energy after training and able to concentrate better at work in the afternoon.
I went to bed earlier than usual, luckily Teghan went to bed early too.

Cardio. I hate cardio.

Day 2 – Lower fix

Not as painful as usual after a workout.
Nutrition must help.

Slits. My poor knees.
I was happy to see the end of training.
I slept 12 hours last night so I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to have all this food in my belly.
Focus on proteins and vegetables.

Day 3 – Upper Fix – 21 day correction with Fibro

Upper body… not too bad.
But then there were the 10-minute sit-ups.
I did my best.
The only abdominal muscles I seemed to feel were under my ribs.
I’m starting to think that I need to search for videos on how to engage the kernel.

I always feel like there is so much food to eat.
I try to focus on vegetables and protein.

Day 4 – Pilates Fix

Oh my Lats !!
I made the pull down / side overs? With 6 pounds yesterday.
I felt great then … but I think DOMS may be settling down.
I didn’t think about putting on a cool azul or ortho ease yesterday.

Pilates, I think I could hate it worse than the sit-ups.
I could really feel it in my muscles but the stretch was so worth it at the end.
My kids, on their first day of virtual learning, kept wondering if I was okay with all the weird grunts and screams I was making.
I had the freedom to put a little ortho-ease on my lats before training.

Day 5 – Cardio Fix + 10 minutes of abs

Surprisingly not as painful as I thought.
I slept fairly decently last night.
My children are starting to break into the meals I prepared for myself.
Oddly enough, they never want to eat the meals I prepare for them.

Day 6 – Sale 30

I think it was the best job of all.
I was able to be focused and it flew away.
My nutrition the night before was… awful.
I had a few drinks with my unscheduled virtual office holiday party leading to snacks and spiraling out of control.

It was a new day and I moved on.
I had a horrible gas bubble under my ribs for most of the day which I will take as a lesson to keep an eye on my nutrition.

I vaguely planned my meals and ordered my groceries online to pick up tomorrow.

Day 7 – Yoga! Best part of 21 Day Fix with fibromyalgia

What a day!
I had hardly had any prepared meals since my family started eating mine INSTEAD of theirs.
My day was planned, and then I learned that Grama, my sister’s boyfriend, had passed away. She was supposed to travel to find our father so he could be with us on vacation. To be nice, I offered to go get him.
But then I got to the store later than I wanted to pick up the grocery order, there were quite a few items missing that made me make another stop. I kept getting distracted by my 12 year old, so I was still missing a few items.

It is also snowing a little and the roads are in poor condition.
I had already made a commitment to pick up our father, an hour’s drive away. It was a struggle to get home, put away the perishables, then go get it AND try to get back before dark because of the blizzard.

I managed to do my job and prepare food.

The pain seemed to go away and I was able to train for seven days in a row.

Reflections from the end of week 1 of the 21 day fix with fibromyalgia

It is a beginner level program.
Considering my past athleticism, I felt so stupid after the changes. I didn’t want to slow myself down, but I listened to my body. I had to take a break a few more times to rest, but I did.
It was difficult for me to determine the nutrition.
I am a picky eater so I had to get creative. So I think that limited my choices.
I think the most important thing is to keep going, push the game forward and never miss a Monday!
