The new year means new loot. COVID still makes life a challenge in general, but the guys who play big league diamonds are showing up nonetheless. Here are some of our observations from Spring Training so far.
Takeover of Rev1x
Rawlings teased his revolutionary synthetic-backed Rev1x glove for what feels like an eternity. They took it a step further this spring, however. They have a ton of big names going wild with this glove, treating the synthetic shell like a blank canvas.
My favorite is this red, white and blue field piece that doesn’t belong to anyone other than Bryce harper. Philly Phanatic green accents push this color combo over the top.
Early adopter of the Rev1x revolution, Francisco lindor, has a kaleidoscope of Rev1x in different colors. This offering has all the colors of the rainbow and then some, with a single single laced post and those platinum labels.
We mentioned in a previous post this Bo Bichette made the switch to Rawlings and we were hoping to see him have fun with the Rev1x. Bichette did not disappoint. the beautifully pixelated red and blue wrist pair with a gray leather base.
The Rev1x is not yet available to us commoners, but if you want to stay up to date you can sign up to receive news via Rawlings.
Trevor Story Strong Stud Set
With the departure of Nolan Arenado for the STL, Trevor’s story is THE MAN in Denver. Widely regarded as one of the best shortstops in the game, Trev also has one of the best styles in the game.
History has never been afraid to stand out and these white and purple tips show it perfectly. These Nike Alpha Huarache Elite 3 the pop tips with a white base and the floral print was a risk well taken.
History will always stand out when the Roxes are on the road. Another pair of Nike Alpha Huarache Elite 3 with a gray base, while the lilac accents and spotty look make them almost as loud as her whites at home.
Our favorite alternative pair of cleats for Story in 2021 have to be these crazy purple Nike Alpha Huarache Elite 2 (which are very hard to find now) with a white elephant print. These shout “look at me” in the best possible way.
Here they are in action in 2019. Still hot.
Vlad Jr. at Jumpman
Every offseason there are a handful of great players who switch brands they use on the pitch. We already have highlighted a few guys who changed leather but we just received the official word from Big Bad Vlad Jr. He is now a member of the Jordan team.
People have been wowed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s slashing slash This second-gen phenomenon has the tools to hit like his daddy – a terrifying thought for opposing pitchers and a great marketing opportunity for the Jordan brand.
Vlad appears this spring soaked in Jumpman. Crampons, batting gloves and even added the armband for good measure. The spikes Vlad Jr. wears here appear to be the Jordan Retro 10 metallic spikes, available at Eastbay for $ 120.
100% Shades continues to grow
Sunglasses have always added that little extra to a baseball player. This once meant flip-down shades which became the OG Oakley M frame and are now represented by 100% Vision.
Baseball players keep flocking to the massive shield-shaped glasses provided at 100%, and Oakley wouldn’t admit it, but they bite the look with their Sutro model. Ronald Acuna Jr. is back with a fresh cut and a new pair of 100% Speedcraft shades (Baseball Express, $ 195).
$ 330 million new man Fernando Tatis elects for the slightly larger 100% bid, the S3, which provide a larger lens than the previously mentioned Speedcraft.
Bo Bichette makes another appearance for her undertones. This is a good shot of his Rev1x that we talked about earlier, but it also highlights his 100% Hypercraft Sunglasses ($ 175- $ 195, Amazon). 100% say they are “lighter, stronger and more dynamic than any performance shield on the market.”
The 2020 World Series Champions are back and better than ever
The Dodgers won the trophy in a shortened season last year. They added Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer in an attempt to lock in back-to-back titles, a feat unfulfilled since the Yankee dynasty of the late 1990s.
2020 Cy Trevor Bauer landed a huge contract, some would say overpaid this offseason. Bauer brings more personality to LA with his red Nike SHA DO leather and some Nike Alpha Huarache Elite 3 low tips, available for $ 90 at Dick’s.
In this amazing video, Mookie betts shagging flies with an interior clone of his Wilson A2K MB50 2021. You can grab his 12.5 inch player for $ 380 from Wilson.com. Belli is back with her player in black suede with that touch of gold. While Cody bellingerThe gaming glove is a PRO442 model, this one is harder to find than this custom Rawlings Heart of the Hide PRO3039, available through the customizer for $ 380
First Hall of Famer Ballot Clayton kershaw finally got her ring in 2020 but some things never change. Clayton has been using this glove for years now, but if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Dicks Sporting Goods offers its single all-black Wilson A2000 CK22, without the finger cap, for $ 280 on their website.
For something new, Kershaw brought out the SKECHERS Batting Gloves! What … Don’t hold your breath for it to release.
Buehler’s glove, another WPW favorite, has also been upgraded in 2021. Looks like the long, skinny bulldog added red stitching to the web – another savvy choice. In case you missed it, here’s our locker tour with Buehler last year:
