New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball wasn’t going to have a bad time against the Golden State Warriors.
After scoring just seven points in the New Orleans Pelicans“ the loss of home to Golden State Warriors Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball told star teammate Zion Williamson via text message on Monday that he will step up his game in Tuesday night’s rematch.
Ball tied his career record 33 points in the Pelicans’ 108-103 win over Golden State. He shot 11 of 23 from the field, 7 of 13 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4 for 4 at the charity strip. Ball also marked the go-ahead bucket at the end of the contest, and he even spoke trash to Draymond Green, the iconic Warriors talker, before it was all said and done. All of this in a day’s work for Ball.
The Pelicans have improved to 30-36 this year, as they continue to fight for their life in the playoffs.
Lonzo Ball carries New Orleans Pelicans in big win over Golden State Warriors
If the 2020-21 NBA season ended today, the Pelicans would miss the two-game play-in tournament. They follow division rival San Antonio Spurs for 10th place in the Western Conference. With their latest loss, Golden State is down to .500 at 33-33. The Warriors would be the No. 8 seed if the season ended today, facing the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in.
While we’re still probably a season away before the Pelicans really turn into something special, it’s important to know what Ball’s free agency plans are. He could go out and get a lucrative contract elsewhere in his restricted free agency. However, playing alongside Williamson may not be a bad career choice for him after all. This will all be decided later this summer after the playoffs.
So far, Ball looked really good in his rebound game against the Warriors on Tuesday night.
