Onuachu Nets Goal No. 35, Dessers Scores Winner As Genk Beat Anderlect
Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers were on the right track as Genk beat Anderlecht 2-1 away in the play-offs to give their Belgian title hopes a big boost, Completesports.com reports.
Onuachu has now scored 35 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for Genk this season.
For his part, Dessers scored his first goal since December 6, 2020 and has now scored five goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season.
Onuachu opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Lukas Nmecha equalized for Anderlecht in the 31st minute.
Dessers, who replaced Onuachu in the 76th minute, scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Saturday’s victory brought Genk’s points to 38 in the four-team league title play-offs, just two points behind leaders Club Brugge, who could extend their lead by beating Royal Antwerp on Sunday.
Genk will host Royal Antwerp in their next game on Thursday.
The team that finishes first in the play-offs for the four-team league title will be crowned champions and advance to the UEFA Champions League next season.
The second placed team will qualify for the Champions League while the third team will participate in the Europa League qualification.
